I selected this area because this is the view I always had when I would go on walks by my grandparents' house.

I think HDR is very unique and is a great way to make your work your own. Anyone could take pictures of these areas, but with HDR you can make it more personal and I love that. I love how dynamic the photos turn out and that you wouldn't just see these kind of photos anywhere.

I think my images tell a story about my life. It starts with places of my childhood that were important to me and lead to important places to me in my life now. I think that being able to make these photos and choosing the location based on personal places makes the photos more significant and special. Anyone can take a picture of a building or location but when it's something personal to you and has a lot of meaning to you, it makes the picture more special somehow and that shows through your work. Especially when you can edit it and make it into your own view of it. I think now that instead of just going out and taking random pictures of places that I think are pretty, I'll start to go to places that mean something and try to incorporate that into whatever project I'm working on whether it's for school or for personal enjoyment.

The lighting of each photo captured every detail of the location. Instead of just focusing on one area of the location and creating a silhouette of the other details, it accentuates every detail of the place you're trying to capture. It makes the photo dynamic and eye catching and unique. It's not something you would just come across anywhere and it makes the photo more special.

HDR Articles

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and is used to increase dynamic parts of a picture by merging three separate pictures with different exposures. You use a program to layer the pictures and filter them and almost always look fake. HDR doesn't have to look artificial. To take an HDR photo, you need a tripod (or a flat surface) because all three pictures have to be exactly the same in order for the merging to work correctly and to come out right. HDR is automatic. Avoid things such as halos, ghosts, noise, etc. Expect a lot of frustration when taking HDR photos.

Personal List

-My back porch with a swing because it's one of my favorite parts of my house.
-My sister's grave because I visit it a lot and she means a lot to me.
-The graveyard where my sister is buried because I think it looks beautiful.
-The barn where I took prom pictures with my boyfriend
-A view of the sky I have when I take a walk on a path by my grandparent's house because I have always admired it.
-The bridge/stream I used to visit with my cousins/grandpa and where my boyfriend and I decided to start dating.
-Parts of my church because I spend 90% of my time there and love it more than anything.
-Road close signs that I saw when I drove to my best friend's house every day before he moved.

HDR Shooting Assignment

Sketchbook Cover

I chose the quote "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith." because my religion is very important to me and I like to read this as a reminder to keep strong in my faith and not to let any doubts into my mind. I think that I'm the type of person that is very family oriented and likes to keep a small group of close friends as opposed to someone with a large group of friends I am not very close to. I am very strong in my faith and love everything that it has brought to my life including the majority of the people in this collage and the beautiful temple that is to the left of the heart. The bottom left section is my "concert" section and I decided to add this because music is very important to me and you can always find me at a concert of my favorite artists. The people in those pictures are either family and friends that I've gone with or people that I've met at the concerts. The bottom right are pictures of my family and I added this section because I think family is one of the most valuable parts of a person's life and that my appreciation for them needed to be showcased. The very top section are pictures from over the summer and also over the last couple of years that I've taken with my best and closest friends. I added this section because these friendships are extremely important to me and I wouldn't be the person I am today without their love and support. I added the temple and Cinderella's castle at Disney World because those are my favorite two places to be. What I like about my sketchbook cover is how the sections ended up working out because I wasn't sure if I would like it in the end. I was pleasantly surprised. A dislike I have is that I wasn't sure what to do with the sides after I had finished the sections but I figured out a way to make it work at the last minute. I probably could have thought of something more creative. One suggestion I would make for myself
is to maybe add different types of flowers instead of one and try to get some
variety instead of repetition.  Overall, I'm extremely happy with the end result of my sketchbook cover.

HDR School Shoot

I took this photo because the cafeteria is one of my favorite places in the school and I loved how they all look the same and that it creates a repetitive feel.
ISO: 400

1/2, 1/6, 2.5

I took this photo because I loved how the sun hit the building and how bright the trees and grass looked. It's also a familiar place because, when I rode the bus, that was always the way I walked out of the school.
ISO: 100
f/22
1/80, 1/100, 1/6

I took this photo because I loved how beautiful the sky looked and the lines of the parking lot directed my eyes toward the sky/field and I thought that it was really cool.

Best Summer Photo

I went to Yellowstone this summer and was able to explore and take creative pictures of nature and the amazing people I was surrounded by. I think this is my best photo because I was able to practice some things I learned last year and work on it to make it come out better. I always seemed to struggle with focus and I think this photo shows that I'm finally starting to get the hang of it. I was also able to incorporate my favorite things to take pictures of which is nature/landscapes and people.
